I just turned 21 last Friday! :3 And my birthday gift you say? A trip to the hospital the Saturday after, and getting hospitalized instantly. Now I’m stuck with a rather bandaged leg, some shots to take every morning and evening, and some other medication. Why? I got a thrombus, a blood clot.

My left leg had been a bit bad lately. It hurt, was sore and twice as big as normal. I thought it was a torn muscle or two, since I’ve had that before. So I waited, and it got better. Friday night it took a turn for the worse. I woke up Saturday finding I could barely walk. I went to the apotechary and talked to them, and got some painkillers and stuff. Didn’t help much, so I called my great-aunt, and went to the emergency clinic as soon as possible.

While there, we had to wait for a bit to get into the doctor. A lot of sick people there, and I think there was a lot of people that needed more help than me really. However, there was a queue-system, so people who needed help, had to wait in line. Of course, if someone were to die or collapse or something, they would probably help them at once. xD Anyway, we got to see the doctor at 8 p.m., and he looked at me once and ordered a blood test. It’s called a d-dimer test, and with this one can check if there’s a blood clut. And judging by my high walues, the probability for that was huge.

I was hospitalized at once after that. Waited a bit for a bed and a room, so I didn’t get set until 11 p.m. After that, I went for x-ray and ultrasound to check if there really was a blood clut. The ultrasound was kind of educational really. The doctor explained things all the way, how, what and why he was doing what he was doing. I’ve probably learned the basics of checking for blood cluts from ultrasound pictures now. xD

I went to bed at 2 a.m. after getting some shots and medication. I hate needles. Didn’t get to sleep much though, I shared a room with 3 others. Nice people, but I felt so sorry for one of my roommates. She spent the night screaming in pain from her high fever and infection. And she was a French student too, so no family or friends were with her either. I hope she is okay now, she got better the day after.

The day after consisted of talking with a few doctors, getting my leg bandaged and gathering some medication. And going home! :3 My mother turned up later that evening. Poor thing, she was worried sick even if I said I was okay. And I am okay, really. I hate to worry people. xD My boyfriend was a lifesaver Friday night when I was hospitalized. He always makes me laugh. <3 I’ve probably worried him quite a bit too, so I feel a bit bad over that.

At least I am okay now. It was only a small clut, so I’ve been lucky to have found it so soon. My leg hurts quite a bit, but that is normal I suppose. It’ll all be gone soon, I just have to wait until the Thrombus dissolves itself when the medication starts to work properly. The leg is normal sized already, so I think it might work very well. :3

That sounds horrible :( It’s like “welcome to the world of fully adults”, now that you’ve turned 21. I’m glad it didn’t get worse, thank goodness you went to the clinic!

    God betring!

Yeah, I bet it was just waiting until the day after my birthday just to make it clear that I was one year older now than the day before. But everything will be fine though, so I guess I was a bit lucky too. ^^

    Tusen takk. n_n
