Happy Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Chinese New Year and Fastelavn!
Posted by Sakuya in PersonalLong title indeed. Well, it just so happens that all these four events collide on just this very day in 2010. While Valentine’s Day is set to be February 14th., the latter three follows a different system. They just happened to be at the same day this year.
- Mother’s Day in Norway is always celebrated at the second Sunday of February, which is the 14th. in 2010
- Chinese New Years follows the Lunar Calendar, which also happens to be the 14th.
- Fastelavn, or fastelaven, is usually celebrated on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday, which in turn happens a set number of days before Easter. Fastelavn happened to be the 14th. this year. I’m not sure which Nordic countries celebrates this event, but Denmark seems to do it as well.
So what am I doing today then? Absolutely nothing! xD I’ve called my mother and wished her happy Mother’s Day. I am not able to make it home before Wednesday, so I’ll have to get her a little present then. I was thinking some pretty flowers and stuff, since she really loves to have flowers on the tables at home. I must agree, I think flowers are really pretty myself. Lilies and orchids are my favourites! Roses are nice too, but I’m not a huge fan of the deep red ones. Depends on the situation though. xP
I feel kind of bad not being able to see my boyfriend on Valentine’s too. But again, I am not able to make it home before Wednesday. I will, however, stay home for our 1-year anniversary. Feels kind of strange having been together for such a long time, but I’m really glad too. We’ve had our ups and downs, but who doesn’t. I guess it’s pretty normal. I kind of wanted to bake something or make some chocolate and send it to him, but that plan went a bit bad. So instead I’m making him some waffles from my great-grandma’s “secret” recipe when I get home, haha.
Chinese New Years. I am not Chinese, not Asian, or anything, so I don’t really celebrate this. I know a bit about it though, being somewhat interested in Asian culture in general. I’ve learnt that fish brings good luck when eaten during new years, so I am having some fish today for dinner. It’s kind of fun doing something, even if it’s a small thing compared to the real deal.
Oh, and I want Fastelavn buns! The kitchen oven is broken, so no buns for me though. They’re yummy and creamy and full of deliciousness~ *drools*
Happy Valentine’s Day to all my friends, family and beloved
Happy Mother’s Day to my awesome mother
新年快樂, 恭禧發財
And hope you all have a taste of those yummy Fastelavn buns. :3 (I may make some when I get home, I’ll be sure to post a recipe if I do)
